Located in the southeast part of East China's Zhejiang province, Lucheng district is the political, economic and cultural center of Wenzhou city. It has jurisdiction over 12 sub-districts, two towns, 89 communities and 80 administrative villages.

In 2020, Lucheng generated a regional gross domestic product of 117.23 billion yuan ($18.12 billion) calculated at comparable prices, a year-on-year increase of 3.1 percent. The added value of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries was 204 million yuan, 27.99 billion yuan and 89.04 billion yuan, respectively – up 1.6 percent, 0.3 percent and 4.3 percent.

The annual per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents in Lucheng averaged at 68,545 yuan, up 2.5 percent on the previous year.

With its broad and inviting range of attractions, the district received 16.025 million tourists last year and made 21.435 billion yuan in tourism revenue.

By the end of 2020, there were 144 State-level high and new-tech enterprises in the district and 1,077 provincial sci-tech small and medium-sized enterprises, 173 R&D centers and 28 maker spaces.

Last year, the number of patent applications in the district reached 7,491, up 35.7 percent. A total of 6,587 patents were granted, a year-on-year rise of 40.5 percent – 2,274 of which were patents for inventions, up 230 percent.
