Located on the southeast coast of East China's Zhejiang province, Yueqing is a county-level city administered by the prefecture-level metropolis of Wenzhou – 63 kilometers from Wenzhou in the south and 248 km from Hangzhou, the capital of the province, in the north. It governs 17 towns and eight sub-districts. At the end of 2020, its registered population exceeded 1.31 million.
With a mature economy, Yueqing was one of the first regions to develop its market economy and it has had one of the most dynamic economies in China. Liushi town in southern Yueqing, for one, is a leading production hub for low-voltage electronics products in China.
According to preliminary numbers, Yueqing generated regional GDP of 126.3 billion yuan ($19.5 billion) last year, a year-on-year increase of 4.5 percent. The growth rate was 2.2 percentage points, 0.9 percentage points and 1.1 percentage points higher than the national, provincial and Wenzhou growth rates, respectively.
In 2020, there were 1,369 manufacturers of a designated size – those with annual revenue of 20 million yuan ($3.09 million) or more – in Yueqing. The value of industrial output totaled 150.92 billion yuan, exceeding 150 billion yuan for the first time.
