Zhonghua Xiaode Park, also known as Zhonghua Filial Piety Park, in Shangyu district, Shaoxing, has been officially recognized as a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage (ICH) tourism site, making it the city's sole entry in the first batch of designated locations. The recognition was announced by the Zhejiang Tourism Attractions Association.
Located in the heart of China's "hometown of filial piety culture", the park is home to significant historical landmarks, including Cao'e Temple and Dashun Temple. These sites honor legendary figures such as Cao E, a young girl renowned for her devotion during the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220), and Emperor Shun, an ancient symbol of filial piety.
Established in 2011 with an investment of 480 million yuan ($66.01 million), the park spans 600 mu (40 hectares). In recent years, it has incorporated intangible cultural heritage experiences, offering interactive workshops on traditional crafts, live cultural performances, and a thriving night market.
"This recognition motivates us to further expand our cultural tourism offerings and strengthen Shangyu's reputation as a heritage destination," said an official from the Cao'e River Tourist Resort Administration.
With its deep historical and cultural roots, Shangyu is integrating its rich filial piety traditions with modern tourism experiences, offering visitors a unique blend of heritage and leisure.
