Shaoxing hosts national jump rope championships

The 2024 National Jump Rope Championships got off to a flying start on Dec 7 in Shaoxing's Shangyu district, where 36 teams and over 900 elite athletes showed off their skills with speed and precision.

The two-day event featured seven main categories and 16 subcategories, including a master's competition and team events.

With national training team spots on the line, organizers livestreamed the fierce events and invited fans to participate in interactive polls.

Shangyu district has been making leaps in its sports initiatives in recent years. By blending athletics with tourism and building a thriving sports economy, the region has turned fitness into a community movement and competitive events into major attractions.

Jump rope has seen rapid growth in recent years, with popular events ranging from the 30-second single rope speed and freestyle routines to team-based challenges like the 4×30-second single rope relay, 2×30-second double rope relay, and synchronized group freestyle.

Other crowd favorites include the 60-second alternating rope speed, 4×30-second alternating rope relay, and the intense 3-minute 10-person long rope figure-eight jump.
