Zhuji, a county-level city of Shaoxing in Zhejiang province, is experiencing a surge in embroidery machine exports, with products now being shipped to over 80 countries and regions, Tide News reported on Dec 5.
From January to October this year, the city recorded embroidery equipment exports worth 2.82 billion yuan ($387.78 million), marking a year-on-year increase of 62.81 percent.
Zhejiang Yuelong Sewing Equipment, located in Huandong subdistrict, is one of the city's leading manufacturers. Workers there are busy refining multi-head computerized embroidery machines for export.
"Demand from emerging markets such as India and Turkiye has been particularly strong," said Yu Hongbing, the company's deputy general manager. Yuelong reported exports of 560 million yuan in the first 10 months of the year, up nearly 50 percent year-on-year.
With over 50 manufacturers of complete embroidery machines and more than 80 suppliers of components, Zhuji has developed a comprehensive industrial chain that now dominates more than 70 percent of the global market share.
Independent branding has been a key driver of success. Zhejiang Xingsheng Technology, another prominent player, exported products worth more than 400 million yuan in the same period, a year-on-year growth rate of 58 percent. The company's high-speed lace embroidery machines, which can process more than 10 stitching techniques at speeds of up to 1,500 revolutions per minute, are particularly popular in markets such as India and Pakistan.
Zhuji's reputation as a global embroidery machine hub has continued to grow. Following its recertification as the "China Embroidery Machine Industry Base" in 2023, Zhuji has seen an increase in orders from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, with bookings now extending to the end of 2025.
Zhuji has also focused on promoting innovation and upgrading production. Companies such as Xingsheng and Yuelong are accelerating the adoption of smart manufacturing technologies, improving efficiency and productivity.
