Shaoxing partners with Fudan to boost archaeological research
The Shaoxing Archaeological Institute has teamed up with Fudan University to advance archaeological research and excavation in the historic city, Tide News reported on Nov 28.
This partnership was formalized with the establishment of Fudan University's bases for internship and "graduates' education practice" in Shaoxing.
This collaboration aims to enhance the excavation, research, and preservation of Shaoxing's cultural heritage. Fudan University will bring its expertise and international connections to support Shaoxing in major archaeological projects, regional archaeological system development, academic research, and cultural heritage protection.
The "Shaoxing Archaeological Research Base" will also be launched to focus on the comprehensive study and revitalization of Shaoxing's archaeological and cultural heritage. Key initiatives include reviewing the prehistoric cultural context of Shaoxing, establishing a regional archaeological research system, and conducting special investigations into significant sites like the ancient Yue Kingdom capital, which dates back over 2,000 years ago
The partnership will also promote full-spectrum cooperation in excavation, restoration, research, and exhibition, aiming to turn archaeological findings into tangible results and enhance the digitalization and display of Shaoxing's discoveries.
Additionally, a bilateral talent cultivation program will be implemented. The Shaoxing Archaeological Institute will provide research opportunities and project studies for Fudan University's faculty and students, while Fudan University will offer continuing education courses for Shaoxing's archaeological professionals. Fudan's faculty and students will actively participate in Shaoxing's archaeological excavations, research, and exhibition projects.
A representative from the Shaoxing Archaeological Institute stated that this partnership with Fudan University aims to leverage the university's archaeological expertise to better serve Shaoxing's archaeological projects.
