Zhejiang introduces 'Fengqiao Model' for resolving intellectual property disputes
Zhejiang hosted China's first on-site exchange event highlighting best practices and case studies for diversified mediation of intellectual property disputes on Nov 27.
To streamline IP dispute resolution and enhance the business environment, the Zhejiang Administration for Market Regulation, in collaboration with courts and judicial departments, implemented the "Fengqiao Model" for IP governance. This approach emphasizes resolving conflicts locally and addressing issues at their root.
Originating in Fengqiao town, Zhuji, Zhejiang province, more than 60 years ago, the "Fengqiao Model" gained national recognition for enabling community-driven dispute resolution and has since been adopted across China.
Currently, Zhejiang's diversified mediation mechanisms have resolved more IP disputes than the total number of cases filed in courts and administrative departments during the same period. In a national competition recognizing innovative mediation practices, Zhejiang had two entries selected — more than any other province.
As a leader in private enterprise and intellectual property, Zhejiang boasts 10.4 million market entities and 267,500 granted patents.
Looking ahead, the Zhejiang Administration for Market Regulation plans to deepen the application of the "Fengqiao Model" in IP dispute resolution. The goal is to enhance mediation mechanisms, strengthen IP protections, and provide robust support for building an innovative Zhejiang and fostering location-specific development of advanced productivity.
