Shaoxing, China, and Oyama, Japan, marked the 15th anniversary of their sister city relationship with an online celebration on Nov 14.
Oyama is located in the southwest of Tochigi prefecture. It is less than 60 kilometers from the capital city of Tokyo.
Wu Dengfen, deputy Party secretary of Shaoxing, highlighted the deep historical ties between China and Japan, spanning over 2,000 years.
Wu praised the two cities' commitment to mutual benefit and practical cooperation in areas like economy, education, culture, and tourism. "We look forward to building on these achievements and contributing to a stronger Sino-Japanese relationship in the new era," Wu said.
This year also marks the 70th anniversary of Oyama's establishment. Japanese representatives expressed gratitude to Shaoxing for its support and reflected on the milestones of their partnership during the virtual event.
Over the past 15 years, Oyama has sent 18 youth delegations — totaling 194 students — to visit Shaoxing, while Shaoxing has reciprocated with 27 delegations and 233 students. Exchanges in education, business, agriculture, and culture have strengthened ties between the cities.
During the celebration, the two cities signed a joint declaration to deepen cooperation in trade, education, and culture. Students from both cities showcased their talents through performances, including traditional music, Chinese speeches, and calligraphy.
