A new and trendy sport captured the attention of numerous citizens and sports enthusiasts in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, on Nov 8.
Participants wielded square paddles resembling table tennis rackets, playing on a court similar in size to a badminton court. They hit a perforated plastic ball over a net, a sport that combines elements of table tennis, badminton, and tennis. This sport, which has recently gained widespread popularity online, is known as pickleball.
At the event, coaches from the "Zhejiang Province Pickleball Committee" provided a detailed introduction to the origins of pickleball. Through demonstrations, they explained the rules, key points, and playing methods of the game.
Participants were also able to try pickleball under the guidance of the coaches. Beginners, eager to satisfy their curiosity, were keen to give it a go, while experienced players showcased their agility and skill, moving and striking the ball with finesse.
Participants exchanged techniques and shared the joy of the game, reveling in the fun and vitality of this new sport regardless of their skill level.
"I used to practice table tennis, so I picked up pickleball quite quickly," said Zhu Xiaoyuan, a resident. "Pickleball has elements of other small ball sports, and its pace and rhythm are very comfortable, allowing players to adjust the tempo to their style."
