Shaoxing's GDP up 6.8% in first three quarters of 2024

Shaoxing's economy saw strong growth in the first three quarters of 2023, with the city's GDP reaching 589.1 billion yuan ($81.58 billion), up 6.8 percent year-on-year — the highest growth rate in Zhejiang province, according to data released by the municipal statistics bureau of Shaoxing on Oct 24.

Retail sales also performed well, totaling 215.1 billion yuan, an 8.7 percent increase that led the province. By category, goods retail grew 17.8 percent, while dining revenue rose 12.9 percent. E-commerce retail continued its rapid expansion, with online sales up 51.8 percent.

Per capita disposable income for Shaoxing residents averaged 58,797 yuan, a 4.9 percent increase from last year. Urban residents saw a per capita income of 66,889 yuan, up 4.3 percent, while rural residents averaged 42,946 yuan, up 5.9 percent. The income gap between urban and rural residents narrowed slightly, with a ratio of 1.56, down by 0.02 from the previous year.
