Zhejiang's GDP up 5.4 percent in first three quarters

Zhejiang in East China announced on Oct 23 its economic performance for the first three quarters of 2024. The province's GDP reached 6.26 trillion yuan ($879.81 billion), a year-on-year increase of 5.4 percent.

Retail sales of consumer goods grew by 4.2 percent during the same period, slightly improving from the 4.1 percent growth seen between January and August. Meanwhile, goods exports reached 2.9 trillion yuan, up 7.8 percent, securing Zhejiang's position as the second-largest exporter in the country with a 15.7 percent share of national exports.

Price levels showed gradual recovery, with the residents' income price index rising from a 0.1 percent decline in Q1 to a 0.3 percent increase by the end of Q3.

Additionally, the urban surveyed unemployment rate averaged 4.5 percent, below last year's level and the national average.

Residents' disposable incomes also saw steady growth, with overall, urban, and rural incomes rising by 4.8 percent, 4.1 percent, and 6.0 percent, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
