Shaoxing sets example in building 'Future Communities'

Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province is committed to developing "future communities", with 154 projects approved, 42 communities completed, and an investment totaling 28.78 billion yuan ($4.00 billion) to date.

These communities benefit over 293,500 residents, with plans to create a further 300 communities by 2026, ultimately covering 88 percent of the city.

As the first in Zhejiang to introduce a citywide "Future Community Implementation Plan", Shaoxing has outlined clear goals for integrating provincial, municipal, and county efforts. The comprehensive framework emphasizes systematic planning to ensure each community reflects Shaoxing's unique characteristics.

A sound practice of this initiative is the Beihai Subdistrict Neighborhood Center in Yuecheng district, where residents gather daily for meals in the shared dining hall. Open since April last year, the dining hall serves around 100 elderly residents each day, making community living both practical and social.
