A group of Zhejiang athletes gathered in Beijing on Aug 20, ready to join the Chinese delegation for the Paris Paralympics.

Among the 516 members of China's delegation, Zhejiang is well represented with 59 participants, including 38 athletes, 12 coaches, five team leaders, two staff members, and two team doctors — marking the largest contingent from the province in the history of the Paralympics.

The Zhejiang athletes include seasoned veterans as well as emerging talents. Notably, 11 of them are previous Paralympic champions.

Shaoxing natives Jiang Yuyan and Yu Qinquan will once again compete in the Paralympics. Jiang, a swimmer who won two golds, one silver, and one bronze in Tokyo, also set three world records. Yu, a goalball player, helped his team secure a silver medal in Tokyo, marking their first return to the Paralympic finals in 13 years. Last year, Yu's team won the men's goalball championship at the 4th Asian Para Games in Hangzhou.

With an average age of 25.8 years old, China's 284 Paralympians are set to participate in 19 sports, including archery, athletics, and badminton, across 302 events at the 17th Summer Paralympic Games, which will be held in Paris from Wednesday to Sept 8.
