In recent years, the Shaoxing Association for Science and Technology has been utilizing platform-based solutions to address enterprises' demand for high-caliber talent and technological innovation.

In 2022, Shaoxing companies that have established workstations for academicians and experts introduced or nurtured a total of 678 talents, leading to the application of 499 scientific and technological achievements and a cumulative profit of 5.33 billion yuan ($744.54 million).

Shaoxing had also established collaborations with more than 130 doctoral researchers from domestic universities by the end of last year. Through these partnerships, a total of 108 projects have been undertaken. The 91 workstations for doctors have received 59 invention patents and 210 utility model patents, formulated 18 industry standards, and developed 350 new products.

Xie Jiahai, chairman of Zhejiang Jinbaili Environmental Technology Co Ltd, which has set up a workstation for doctors, said: "The workstation can help universities with postgraduate education, as students can select their research subjects based on companies' actual needs. Technical personnel from enterprises can also receive training at universities to expand their knowledge."

In terms of equipment sharing, Xie added that as universities cannot always afford to purchase and establish specialized equipment, they can use equipment owned by enterprises to conduct research. Meanwhile, universities can share their expensive but seldom-used equipment with enterprises.
