An event titled "Master Dialogue: Lu Xun and Sandor Petofi" took place at Shaoxing University on May 25.

Lu Xun, hailed as the "Father of Modern Chinese Literature," and Sandor Petofi, revered as the founding figure of Hungarian national literature, share some remarkable commonalities.

They not only achieved unparalleled literary prowess, garnering worldwide recognition, but also laid the foundation for their respective national literary traditions.

Engaging in conversations on topics such as "Lu Xun's translation and evaluation of Petofi's literature," "Parallelism in the literary creations of Lu Xun and Petofi," and "The role of Lu Xun and Petofi in Sino-Hungarian cultural exchange," the event proved a worthwhile experience.

"Lu Xun, during his time studying in Japan, came across German translations of Petofi's poetry, which brimmed with impassioned words," remarked Hao Lulu, deputy director of the Liszt Institute Hungarian Cultural Center in Beijing.

According to She, it was then that Lu Xun began supporting and advocating for the translation of Petofi's poetry into Chinese, introducing it to the Chinese people. Thus, these two literary giants became intertwined on Chinese soil.

"This event not only deepens our understanding of the spiritual and intellectual connection between Lu Xun and Petofi but also sheds light on the contemporary value of their literary legacies," said Li Shenghua, dean of the School of Humanities at Shaoxing University.
