Shengzhou ventures into digital economy

Shengzhou in East China's Zhejiang province achieved a value-added increase of 627 million yuan ($89.07 million) in the first quarter, a year-on-year growth of 140.5 percent.

At the construction site of the second phase of the BYD New Energy Power Battery Production Base in the Shengzhou Economic Development Zone, the steel structure of the main plant was recently lifted into place.

The project took just 10 months to complete and is expected to have an annual output value of 20 billion yuan.

By the end of last year, Shengzhou was already home to 83 enterprises in the new energy equipment industry. The sector achieved an annual output value of 8.79 billion yuan, accounting for 14.17 percent of the city's total industrial output value.

Shengzhou has formulated an action plan for the "Number One Development Project," which aims to deepen the implementation of innovative measures to enhance the quality of the digital economy.

According to the plan, Shengzhou strives to achieve a value-added increase of 5.5 billion yuan in the digital economy, a software industry revenue of 2.15 billion yuan, 26 billion yuan in online retail sales, and 600 million yuan in digital imports and exports.
