Shaoxing aims to become top-tier destination for sports
Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province is focusing on developing its sports events economy with the recent revival of the home and away system in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league.
The city is home to two CBA teams: the Zhejiang Golden Bulls and the Zhejiang Lions. The former is currently the highest ranked team in the current season, while the latter reached the finals and clinched second place the previous season.
These two teams, both powerhouses in the CBA, have set their sights on making Shaoxing their home turf, with the Golden Bulls playing their games in Keqiao district and the Lions holding court in Zhuji county-level city.
Shaoxing is also gearing up to host the volleyball matches for the upcoming Asian Games at the newly-renovated China Textile City Sports Center. The state-of-the-art facility was specifically designed to accommodate multiple sports events, including basketball and volleyball.
The city has also hosted other high-profile events, including the Shaoxing International Half Marathon and the Women's Volleyball Club World Championships.
The local government has set its sights on integrating sports with other industries, such as education and healthcare. This vision is aligned with the city's position as a top-tier destination for sports.
