Transportation authorities in Yuecheng district in Shaoxing awarded the first certificate to an operator of a Wupeng boat, an old-style black-roof boat that is unique to the city, local media reported on Feb 16.
This means that operators of Wupeng boats will now have to hold certificates and comply with the highest standards for vessel operation and maintenance.
The Wupeng boat is not only an essential means of transportation in the water town but is also a symbol of the city's cultural tourism.
With the issuance of the certificate, there will be higher standards for boatmen, the management system for relevant enterprises will be improved, and hardware facilities will be standardized.
The standardized operation of Wupeng boats will provide a safer and more enjoyable experience for tourists, and professional guidance will better satisfy tourists, according to local transportation authorities.
