Shaoxing-based Zhejiang Weixing Technology Co recently launched its first independently-developed satellite from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwestern China's Gobi Desert, local media reported on Feb 8.
Li Dong, chief executive officer of the company, said the satellite weighs approximately 15 kilograms and is equipped with a small high-spectral camera. It is one of the smallest and highest resolution micro-nano satellites in China and its performance is considered highly advanced by international standards.
Weixing Technology, a commercial aerospace company, specializes in the design, development, and data application services for commercial satellites.
The company has invested approximately 1 billion yuan ($147 million) in its satellite development base in the Shengzhou Economic Development Zone, which is expected to produce 30 to 100 satellites annually after completion.
The satellite data collected by the company can be widely used in fields such as urban planning, traffic management, and disaster prevention and reduction. The company will provide multidimensional data support and innovative solutions for Shaoxing’s smart city development.
