The Shaoxing Huangjiu Tasting for International Friends took place in Shanghai on Sept 30.

More than 30 diplomats from 19 countries attended the event, which was held by the Shaoxing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Shaoxing Huangjiu Industry Association to promote Shaoxing's yellow rice wine (huangjiu) industry.

Tan Zhigui, president of Shaoxing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, said in his speech that Shaoxing residents have been committed to creating high-quality huangjiu for thousands of years.

Since the founding of the Republic of China, Shaoxing Huangjiu has been served at events including the Beijing Olympic Games, the Shanghai World Expo, the G20 Hangzhou Summit, according to Tan.

Xu Mingguang, vice-president of the China Alcoholic Drinks Association and president of Shaoxing Huangjiu Industry Association, made a speech titled "Huangjiu, the Representative of National Wine".

Xu said that Shaoxing Huangjiu is the oldest wine in the world and this was proved by the findings at the Hemudu Cultural Site, which has a history of more than 7,000 years. Shaoxing Huangjiu is the most characteristic fermented wine. The color, aroma, taste and style are pleasing and attractive.

During the event, 19 representatives of foreign embassies and consulates in China raised their glasses to decent Shaoxing Huangjiu and cultural shows were performed by Shaoxing artists.
