Shaoxing-born writer wins Lu Xun Literature Prize

Ai Wei, a writer from Shangyu district in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, won the eighth Lu Xun Literature Prize with his novel An Everlasting Life on Aug 25.

The novel depicts the life of a heroine surnamed Qi, a popular Yue Opera performer who despite being the embodiment of perfection on stage has many flaws in life.

Ai, formerly known as Zhu Xiongwei, is now the chairman of the Zhejiang Writers' Association and the chairman of the Hangzhou Literary Federation.

One of the country's top literary prizes, the Lu Xun Literature Prize was established to honor the celebrated Chinese author who was active in the early 20th century and is considered a forerunner of modern-day Chinese language and literature.

The prize selection is held every four years, and the eighth Lu Xun Literature Prize is limited to entries created from Jan 1, 2018 to Dec 31, 2021.
