The Zhuji-Shanghai Port railway route was launched in Zhuji, a county-level city in Shaoxing, on Aug 18.
The first train to ply the route departed from the Zhujidong Station for the Shanghai Luchao Port. The train was carrying 22 TEUs of cargo, including textile products, clothing and sanitary products, that will be exported to the US and Europe.
In November 2018, the Zhuji-Ningbo Zhoushan Port railway started operations, connecting land and sea transportation hubs. Zhuji companies have delivered more than 20,000 TEUs of cargo through this route.
According to Yao Yongqi, deputy director of the Zhuji commerce bureau, about 98 percent of Zhuji's export containers are bound for the Ningbo Zhoushan Port and Shanghai Port.
The new railway service offers efficient and cheaper services for companies to export their products. It also helps lower the risks of COVID-19 spread caused by cross-district movement of track drivers.
