Certificates of origins help Shaoxing trade firms secure more deals

The Shaoxing Council for the Promotion of International Trade signed and issued more than 56,000 certificates of origins in the first five months of this year, hitting a record high, local media outlets reported.

Among them, more than 9,000 are preference certificates of origins for free trade zones, which are expected to reduce more than $11 million in tax for Shaoxing’s exports.

Certificates of origins, which serve as the identity of traded goods, are credentials for exporters to enjoy tax break. They are so important in foreign trade that they receive another name "paper gold".

In order to reduce the risks of COVID-19 spread and help firms apply for certificates of origins timely, the Shaoxing Council for the Promotion of International Trade opened a channel allowing firms to self-serve themselves by printing the certificates at any time.

So far, more than 3,000 firms in Shaoxing have applied for being entitled to self-printing the certificates of origins. To solve the needs of these firms, Shaoxing has set up many self-printing sites in its sub-districts and communities.
