Seven villages in Shaoxing, East China's Zhejiang province, have been included in the first batch of 100 "future villages" to be built in Zhejiang, according to guidelines recently issued by the Zhejiang authorities.

The authorities define future villages as those featuring ecological landscapes, the use of digital technology, and inheritance of traditional culture.

The guidelines state that Zhejiang will build more than 200 such villages annually starting from 2022. By 2025, the province should have more than 1,000 of such villages.

Future villages are expected to see a net increase of permanent residents, especially young people.

Zhejiang will also incubate startup companies in agriculture sector and agricultural services to boost the development of future villages.

The province will also improve infrastructure construction related to shopping, catering financial, medical and telecommunication services.

For example, charging piles for new energy vehicles will be installed and the coverage of 5G signals will be expanded, said authorities.
