Science, Technology and Innovation

Shaoxing is a pilot city for technical innovation, intellectual property protection and sustainable development. All the six districts, counties and cities under its administration are selected for scientific and technological system reform in Zhejiang province.

There are four national and seven provincial development zones in the city. Enterprises play an increasingly important role in innovation, and 966 high-tech enterprises have won national support. It has built 36 maker spaces above provincial level, as well as 30 scientific and technological incubators above municipal level. It has been listed as the only comprehensive innovation and reform point linked with the province.

Industrial Development

As a key pilot city for the provincial comprehensive supplementary reforms of traditional industry upgrading, Shaoxing gives top priority to the development of the information economy, cultural tourism, advanced equipment manufacturing and life health. At the same time, it has been making efforts to upgrade its competitive industries in high-end textiles, green chemicals, metalwork and modern building. Its traditional industries of rice wine, silk, fresh water pearls, tea, and torreya conifers have been vigorously promoted.

Shaoxing has a developed cluster economy. Keqiao district is the largest production base for chemical fiber fabrics in Asia and the world's largest textile distribution center. Shengzhou is the largest production base for neckties and kitchenware in China. Zhuji has the largest hosiery industry in China. The city has been accelerating the construction of characteristic towns, such as rice wine towns and a socks town. The city has chosen nine towns to be constructed as provincial-level characteristic towns and 33 towns to be constructed as municipal-level characteristic towns.

Shaoxing is the hometown of Chinese architecture. The city is the only double-pilot city in Zhejiang province for both the construction and housing industries.

Shaoxing is a famous tourist city with 74 tourist attractions of A level and above. The city has forged such tourism brands such as Touring Shaoxing under the Guidance of Textbooks, Vintage Shaoxing and Shaoxing Research Tour, which have enjoyed remarkable popularity in recent years. Jinghu Tourism Complex, Jinsha Amusement Park and Hangzhou Bay Flower Town in Shangyu have been greatly developed in recent years. 

Rural Vitalization

Shaoxing has a typical Jiangnan-style (the southern part of the Yangtze River) landscape with stone bridges, extensive waterways and riverside households in the countryside. Shaoxing has vigorously promoted the construction of Beautiful Countryside and intensified the environmental renovation of rural settlements. It has developed 851 five-star villages and 51 3A-level scenic villages. The construction of spiritual civilization in rural areas continues to deepen, and cultural development in rural areas has been further enhanced.
