Shaoxing to transport 614,000 passengers during festival travel rush

Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province is expected to send about 614,000 passengers during the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush which started from Jan 17, a notable decrease from the same period of previous year.
Officials explained that the notable decrease resulted from many people's choice to stay local in a bid to decrease COVID-19 infection risk.
Statistics showed than about 7,000 passengers, most of whom are migrant workers, departed from Shaoxing to their homes by trains at the Shaoxingbei Railway Station on Jan 17, the very first day of the Spring Festival travel rush.
Sun Yi, a staff member at the Shaoxingbei Railway Station, said that the station is implementing strengthen disinfection measures to protect passengers from COVID-19.
On the same day, the Shaoxing Railway Station sent 27 trains carrying 2,500 passengers, almost consistent with last year.
