Primary and junior high school students in Zhejiang got to enjoy a stress-free end to the recent semester courtesy of the "double reduction" policy which was implemented last August.
The policy is aimed at reducing homework and after-school tutoring for students.
Because of this policy, students from Taoyan Subdistrict Central Primary School in Shaoxing participated in a series of games instead of having to sit for exams.
During these games, the students got to recap whatever they learned during the semester through challenges such as writing Chinese characters, spelling English words, citing poems, as well as showing off their money management skills.

Zhejiang's "double reduction" policy requires all students to complete their written homework in school. The province's junior high schools must ensure that all students can complete most of their homework in school.
The action plan also requires schools to improve their after-school services. Teachers are required to look after students until their parents pick them up.
All curriculum-based tutoring institutions have to be registered as nonprofit organizations and are not allowed to conduct tutoring on weekends, national holidays or during winter and summer vacations.
