The Shaoxing Keqiao Yangshan Sport Climbing Center was recently recognized as one of "the most characteristic venues" by the organizing committee of the Asian Games Hangzhou 2022.

The venue, which covers over 10,000 square meters and can seat 2,100 spectators, looks like a cocoon when viewed from above, said Huang Huiming, designer of Shaoxing Keqiao Yangshan Sport Climbing Center.

According to Huang, the design was inspired by fabric as the textile industry is Shaoxing's pillar industry.

"We adopted a hollowed-out design so that the building will fit better with the surroundings," Huang added.

Apart from Hangzhou, Shaoxing will host the largest number of events during the Games.

The city will have five Asian Games venues: the Keqiao Yangshan Sport Climbing Center, the Shaoxing Baseball & Softball Sports Center, the Shaoxing Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, the China Textile City Sports Center Gymnasium, and the Shaoxing Keqiao Jianhu Football Pitch.
