The live-action show Village Play in Luzhen Town, which was inspired by the literary works of Lu Xun, one of the most influential writers in China, made its debut at the Luzhen Theater in Keqiao district, Shaoxing, Zhejiang province on April 29.

The play was a tribute to the renowned writer, with this year marking his 140th birthday.

During the play that lasted more than one hour, audience members showed their enjoyment by giving rounds of applause.

The play depicts a pupil who happened to travel back to a century ago in Luzhen Town, where he witnesses the struggle of Runtu, A Q, Mistress Xiang Lin, and Kong Yiji, all protagonists in Lu Xun's works.

The stage for the play features typical scenic views in a Jiangnan  watertown, which refers to the area south of lower reaches of the Yangtze River, with the venue able to accommodate an audience of more than 730 people.

Li Hanzhong, chief director of the play, said that the play incorporates many cultural elements of Shaoxing and echoes the sentiment of many Chinese people, who have read Lu Xun's works at a young age.
