An activity aimed at taking advantage of e-commerce channels to promote Xinchang Tea was recently held at the Xishan Tea Plantation in Xinchang county, Shaoxing, East China's Zhejiang province.

During the event, five well-known live streamers promoted Xinchang tea.

Xinchang is home to a renowned tea industry. But despite its large scale, the county has faced difficulties in leveraging digital technology to empower its tea industry.

In 2020, Xinchang's project using digital technology to boost its tea industry was recognized as a provincial demonstration project for spurring industrial development in rural areas. The project aims to apply digital technology in each part of the tea industrial chain.

Over the past year, Xinchang has built meteorology stations in tea gardens and e-commerce livestreaming bases, and developed self-service tea sales system.

In the first quarter of this year, the trade volume of tea in Xinchang totaled 2,048 tons, with the turnover amounting to 1.76 billion yuan ($270 million).

The county has also founded a center for e-commerce service and launched a series of favorable policies to bolster local e-commerce growth. The local authorities have been focusing on the training of social media operation skills to help increase new orders.

Xinchang is also building a tea industrial complex which is expected to span 15,000 square meters. Construction began in 2020 and will end in 2023.
