Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province made remarkable progress promoting the high-quality development of its manufacturing industry during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), with the industry's production capacity and sales revenue seeing double-digit growth over the past three years.

During this period, the city developed a cluster of advanced manufacturing companies, and in July, construction began on the Donghu high-tech project. The project uses world-class micro-reactor technology, making the manufacturing process safer and more environmentally friendly.

As the city works to concentrate manufacturing companies within a special zone, it is also increasing efforts to shut down outdated production facilities and reduce resource consumption.

According to estimates, sewage in the city has been reduced by nearly 45 million tons, almost equivalent to the total volume of water in the three West Lakes, after a series of actions to regulate manufacturing companies.

Shaoxing is also encouraging companies to make use of digital technology to improve their manufacturing process.

By employing a micro manufacturing system, the production capacity of our company has increased by 12 percent and the labor force has been reduced by 50 percent, said Liu Dan, general manager of career division 1 at Zhejiang Sling Bearings Co Ltd.

The company plans to make use of 5G and industrial internet of things technology to make its industrial chain more intelligent, she added.

Last year, Shaoxing launched a program to technologically upgrade companies in key traditional manufacturing industries, resulting in the upgrading of 498 projects at 251 companies.

The impressive growth of Shaoxing's manufacturing industry is also partly due to the technical innovations of companies.

Since the beginning of the year, Zhejiang Pufeite Cutting Tool Co has seen a surge in orders due to its new product – a metal ceramic end mill developed independently by the company. The new end mill has twice the life-time dilation as a traditional one, and is more accurate as well, making it instantly popular.
