The modern transport network in Shaoxing is constantly improving after many years of development. By the end of 2019, the total length of highways in Shaoxing reached 10,222 kilometers, 441 of which are expressways. The length of railways totaled 238 km, 119 of which are high-speed rail.
So far, the city has two high-speed railways in operation (Hangzhou-Ningbo and Hangzhou-Changsha passenger transport lines), seven expressways including Hangzhou-Ningbo, Changshu-Taizhou, Hangzhou-Jinhua-Quzhou, Ningbo-Jinhua and Shaoxing-Zhuji.
Jiashao Bridge, stretching across Hangzhou Bay and connecting the cities of Shaoxing and Jiaxing, marks a breakthrough in Shaoxing's north-south transport. It also won three top international bridge awards, including the Gustav Lindenthal Award.
In recent years, the annual investment in comprehensive traffic construction reached 20 billion yuan ($2.83 billion) and the total investment during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) is expected to exceed 120 billion yuan.
Construction will be accelerated on such major projects as Hangzhou-Shaoxing-Taizhou, Jinhua-Ningbo and Hangzhou-Shaoxing intercity railways, rail transit lines 1 and 2, and the Hangzhou-Shaoxing-Ningbo and Hangzhou-Shaoxing-Taizhou expressways. When completed, these projects will form a 30-minute commuting circle between the urban areas of Hangzhou and Shaoxing, a 45-minute Hangzhou metropolitan traffic circle and a one-hour traffic circle connecting Ningbo and Shaoxing.
