Shaoxing strengthens global ties at friendship cities conference

The 5th China Shaoxing International Friendship Cities Conference commenced on May 24, welcoming over 300 attendees from 21 countries.

Shi Huifang, deputy Party secretary and mayor of Shaoxing, provided an overview of Shaoxing's economic and social development. He emphasized Shaoxing's commitment to integrating into the Belt and Road Initiative and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement.

Shi invited international friends to visit Shaoxing to explore opportunities for shared growth and a prosperous future.

During the conference, Shaoxing expanded its international network by signing three agreements on the establishment of relationships for friendly exchanges and three memorandums on the development of relationships for friendly exchanges.

Additionally, six cooperation projects spanning investment, education, sports, and culture were signed. These agreements aim to foster multifaceted collaboration between Shaoxing and its international friends, enhancing economic, cultural, and educational exchanges on a global scale.

The conference also saw the signing and release of "The Voice of the Canal" Green Development Shaoxing Initiative, focusing on sustainable urban development, heritage preservation, and international cooperation.

The initiative highlights Shaoxing's commitment to global climate governance, the rapid development of new quality productive forces, and the promotion of a green, low-carbon lifestyle, offering insights and solutions for sustainable development.

The event featured a "5+12" series of activities, including five themed events and 12 "Shaoxing Dialogues with the World" sessions. These activities, designed to highlight the unique characteristics of the canal city, aim to further international exchange and cooperation.

During the conference, attendees will also participate in the Ancient City & Friendship Cities Carnival and city tours, enriching their experience and engagement with Shaoxing's culture and heritage.
