Zhou Hui, deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC) from Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, suggested enhancing basic technical research and innovation capabilities in order to upgrade and transform traditional manufacturing companies.
"To construct an innovative country and develop strategic emerging industries, we can't do without innovative companies," said Zhou, who is also a technical expert at Jiaxipera Compressor Co Ltd, during at an interview with Jiaxing Daily on May 27.
She added that, especially amid the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak, only by mastering core technologies can a company maintain a leading position among its competitors.
However, during her investigation, she found that most traditional companies are lacking high-level professionals and have insufficient investment in research and development (R&D).
Therefore, she proposed encouraging companies to increase R&D investment, advocating industry-university-institute cooperation, and boosting basic scientific research to improve these companies' innovation capability.
