At the Lianhua Bay Beach in Zhoushan city – located in East China's Zhejiang province – workers are busy nowadays cleaning and restoring the beach.

The Zhoushan Marine Ecological Protection and Restoration Project has recently begun – aiming to create a 10-kilometer-long golden coastline using 480,000 metric tons of sand. The project is expected to be fully completed by October 2026.

Once finished, residents will be able to enjoy the sight of golden sands and blue waves right on their doorstep.

The beach ecological restoration process is a key part of the project. The construction area aligns with the route of the Luotang road, widely considered as the most beautiful coastal road in Zhoushan, stretching nearly 10 kilometers.

The restoration area includes the northern and southern beaches of Niushou Mountain, Qingshizi Beach, Tangtou South Beach, and Lianhua Bay Beach – covering a total area of around 50 hectares. The Lianhua Bay Beach is the largest, spanning 20.13 hectares.

In addition to beach ecological restoration, the project also includes pebble beach restoration, erosion slope repairs, vegetation restoration on the slopes, bivalve and algae reef restoration, and marine debris management.
