A fishing pier on Shengshan Island in Shengsi county, Zhoushan, is set to be completed and open soon, according to Tide News on Nov 26.
Shengshan Island is the easternmost inhabited island in China, with a land area of 4.22 square kilometers and unique fishing grounds such as sea reefs, drawing more attention in the fishing industry.
A total of 44.5 million yuan ($6.15 million) was invested in the construction project, which includes a fishing pier, a distribution center, and an exhibition hall on Shengshan Island.
The exhibition hall was completed and opened in June 2023, while the pier and distribution center are expected to be operational by the end of this year, according to Zhou Di, deputy mayor of Shengshan town.
Sea Fishing is considered a high-end industry in the marine sector, characterized by environmentally friendly operations with high economic benefits and minimal ecological impact.
In recent years, Shengsi county has seized the development opportunities presented by the sea fishing industry, completing the demarcation of 5.18 square kilometers of fishing grounds.
