Starting at noon on Aug 1, more than 2,600 licensed fishing vessels from Zhoushan set sail for designated fishing grounds.

According to regulatory guidelines, vessels authorized for specific fishing operations in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea, between latitudes 35°N and 26°30'N, can engage in targeted fishing for shrimp, crabs, and mid-upper layer fish species. These operations include beam trawling for shrimp, pot fishing, gillnetting, and light purse seining. The permits are issued by provincial fishery authorities and approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

Beam trawlers focus on catching shrimp species such as red shrimp, sand shrimp, and mantis shrimp. Pot fishing vessels primarily target crabs and cephalopods, while gillnetters focus on species like yellow croaker and pomfret. Light purse seine vessels aim to catch mackerel, hairtail, and other pelagic fish.

Within one to three days, the first catches of swimming crabs, red shrimp, and other seafood are expected to hit markets. Vessels operating closer to shore may return with fresh catches as early as the next morning.
