The 6th Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship opened in Putuo district, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province on June 11.
The event has drawn 24 teams and over 100 university athletes from various countries and regions across Asia. The champions will go on to represent Asia in the World University 3x3 Basketball League.
"Upon arriving in Putuo, I was greeted by many beautiful sights. Competing in such a picturesque city makes me very happy," said Zachary Bryan, a men's basketball player from the National University of Singapore.
The event is a testament to the efforts of local authorities to attract and nurture high-level basketball competitions. It aims to leverage sports events to boost urban development, stimulate economic growth, and enhance public well-being.
Incorporating Putuo's unique culture and consumer experiences, the event featured local cultural performances such as Zhoushan gongs and drums during the opening ceremony and halftime shows.
A representative from the Putuo bureau of culture, radio, television, tourism, and sports stated that the district plans to actively develop more venues with island characteristics to support and host more high-level competitions in the future.
