Three cultural relics in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, have been listed as provincial cultural relics protection units, the Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau recently announced.

One hundred and twenty-one cultural relics in the province made the list.

The three cultural relics are the stone inscriptions on Putuo Mountain, Shengsi county's Huangjiatai ruins and the former site of the People's Commune on Mayi Island.

The stone inscriptions were carved on cliffs in Zhenqianshan village at the foot of Putuo Mountain in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

The Huangjiatai ruins are a sand dune site of the Liangzhu Culture, a highly developed ancient culture in the late Neolithic age that dates back 4,800 years. The ruins are the first of their kind discovered in the province, indicating that the settlement of Sijiao Island began as early as 5,000 years ago.

The former site of the People's Commune on Mayi Island was built in 1956 and is a building typical of the 1950s.

Zhoushan is currently home to 15 provincial cultural relic protection units.
