Chinese pangolins spotted in Zhoushan

Updated : 2023-04-17 (chinadaily.com.cn)

A video shot by a resident in Putuo district in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, on April 13 shows a Chinese pangolin carrying its offspring in the wild, local media reported.

Gao Haojie, an engineer at the Zhoushan Academy of Forestry, said that the video is very precious as it is the first of its kind in the city.

Chinese pangolins are one of the world's eight pangolin species, and have been listed among wild animals under first-class State protection.

Chinese pangolins were discovered in the city in 2021 and 2022, according to local media reports.

Gao said that the appearance of Chinese pangolins is largely due to the city's improved ecological environment, people's awareness of protecting wild animals, and the enforcement of wildlife protection laws.
