Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province has been making efforts in recent years to establish more self-service reading rooms that would enrich the spiritual and cultural lives of local residents.
In light of the provincial guidelines to develop a 15-minute cultural life circle for citizens, the city has built 11 reading rooms so far this year.
Zhoushan has also implemented a series of measures to promote the development of the city’s reading rooms, including making full use of social capital to help reading rooms operate smoothly, building featured reading rooms based on their cultural and tourism resources, developing more cultural and creative products and holding relevant activities.
A staff member of the Zhoushan Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio, Television and Sports said that the city will build 450 15-minute cultural life circles by the end of this year. These circles will feature eight reading rooms, five cultural posts and 14 upgraded rural museums.
The staff added that Zhoushan will build 55 reading rooms in the near future across the whole city.
