Putuo Mountain in Zhoushan is one of China's Four Sacred Mountains of Buddhism and has been regarded by Buddhists as the shrine of Guanyin Bodhisattva since ancient times.

The most famous spot on Putuo Mountain is the 33-meter high Guanyin Bodhisattva statue. Every year, the scenic area holds a grand Guanyin Cultural Festival and temple fairs to celebrate Bodhisattva's birthday, the day he became a monk, and the day he became an immortal.

Puji Temple, Fayu Temple and Huiji Temple are the three major temples on Putuo Mountain. Puji Temple is the largest and oldest temple of the three.

There's a saying in Zhoushan that one cannot be considered to have truly visited the Putuo Mountain scenic area if he or she does not climb Foding Mountain.
