Shengsi on path to common prosperity

Shengsi, a county in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, has pursued high-quality development over the past five years.

Over the past five years, Shengsi has witnessed stronger comprehensive strength, a better natural environment, and improved quality of life.

Its GDP increased at an annual rate of 5.7 percent from 9.77 billion yuan ($1.54 billion) in 2017 to 12.4 billion yuan in 2021.

The county afforested 153.3 hectares of forests and tended to 666.7 hectares of forest. It has also been recognized as a provincial forest city.

Two of its scenic areas were upgraded as national 4A-level scenic areas and Huaniao was recognized as a national rural tourism village.

In 2021, the per capita disposal income of urban and rural areas in Shengsi amounted to 61,000 yuan and 41,000 yuan respectively, while the ratio of urban and rural residents' income was reduced to 1.49, far lower than the national and provincial averages.

From 2017 to 2021, Shengsi spent 10.59 billion yuan to improve the wellbeing of local residents. The figure accounted for 74 percent of its general public budget expenditure.

Over the following five years, Shengsi will further develop its maritime economy and make efforts to build the most beautiful island in Zhejiang. In addition, the annual increase rate of the island county's GDP is expected to reach 5.5 percent, while that of fixed asset investment would hit 8 percent.
