The 22nd China Zhoushan International Sand Sculpture Festival will commence at the Nansha Sand Beach of Zhujiajian scenic area, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, on June 25, local media reported.

Themed on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the festival features a series of sand sculptures created in tribute to the centenary.

Performances, including concerts, acrobatics, song and dance, as well as local special shows, will be held on the opening day.

Covering an area of 72 square kilometers, Zhujiajian is the fifth largest island in the Zhoushan Archipelago and is famous for its natural scenery, vast blue sea, fresh air and golden sand beaches.

It has more than five of the longest sand beaches in East China, such as Nansha Sand Beach and Qingsha Sand Beach. Nansha has excellent sand that is ideal for making sculptures.

In addition to sand sculptures, Nansha has three other tourist themes -- ecological leisure, fishing folk and Buddhist culture.
