Live streaming is becoming increasingly common as a way to promote products in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province.

On May 23, Fang Wei, deputy mayor of Zhoushan, appeared on a live streaming platform operated by Lvmama, a domestic online travel agency, to promote the city's cultural and tourism products.

The live broadcast attracted 3.18 million viewers and garnered 120,000 likes in five minutes.

Fang, joined by Hong Qinghua, president of Lvmama Group, briefed the audience on the city's culture, history and abundant tourism resources.

The event comes as part of efforts by local authorities to bail out the cultural and tourism sectors, which were hit hard by the epidemic.

It is the first time that the city has promoted tourism goods via live streams. Nevertheless, more than 90 percent of products promoted during the live broadcast were sold, bringing in more than 10 million yuan ($1.44 million).

"Live streaming has shown great promise, and we plan to adopt it as a new marketing promotion method for local tourism in the future," Fang said.

Starting in February, Zhoushan has been issuing a string of measures to promote consumption and bolster confidence among local cultural and tourism enterprises.

One such measure is the issuing of coupons. As of May 23, a total of 57,705 coupons have been used in the city, involving more than 170 businesses.
