The 4th Donghai Grand Canyon Trail Running Race was held in Dinghai district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province on Dec 23.
More than 600 sports enthusiasts participated in the race. They enjoyed running through the beautiful scenery alongside the ancient trails and old villages.
"This is a good opportunity for me to exercise and visit the scenic spot," said teenage runner Guo Xingle.
Participants were divided into 75km, 50km, 35km and 10km groups. They experienced the distinct islands scenery of the city as they ran through the Donghai Grand Canyon Ecological Park, with those running 75km going through a subsea tunnel.
"We have been working on integrating sports and tourism for a long time, which is also the future development trend of outdoor sports," said Han Xinhai, an organizer of the race, adding that they will design more hiking and cycling activities based on the local characteristics of Dinghai district so that tourists can learn more about the local culture.
