A teacher from Dinghai district, Zhoushan city, Zhejiang province, has embarked on a long series of lectures to the public on the history of China, which she claims may take ten years or more to complete, local media reported.
The teacher, named Liu Jiayu, started the lectures in 2014 and gave her latest lecture at the city library on Aug 17 on the topic of the Northern Dynasties in ancient China.
Liu, aged 36, works at the New Town Community College. Due to her busy schedule, she only has time at nights and weekends to prepare for the lectures.
"To tell the story of China entails much work, as the country has a history of more than five thousand years. So it takes me over half a month to prepare for just one lecture, from making an outline to collecting and organizing various materials," said Liu.
Having had a strong interest in history since childhood, Liu kept on pursuing history studies in college and worked as a middle-school history teacher for many years after graduation before moving to work at the community college.
She started giving the lectures out of a desire for sharing the long and varied history of China with the public, and enhancing people's confidence in the Chinese culture.
