Nearly 10,000 participants from home and abroad savored the charm of Zhoushan, an island city in East China's Zhejiang province by hiking along its sea-view avenue on May 20 for an international hiking event.
Gathering at the Zhoushan Stadium, people set off on hikes ranging from 10 to 30 kilometers, passing by the most recognizable landmarks of the city.
Whilst walking in one of the city's parks, participants were treated to traditional songs sung by local fishermen, a distinctive part of Zhoushan's fishing culture.
Hosted by the Zhejiang tourism administration and Zhoushan government, the aim of the mass hike was to promote the beautiful natural landscapes and rapid social development of the city to tourists worldwide, according to Zhang Hui, general director of the event.
