The Hengtai 550-megawatt fishery and photovoltaic integrated power generation project in Yueqing, Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, was connected to the State Grid on July 30.
The project, combined with the Wenzhou Yueqing Bay shared energy storage station launched in late June, has immense potential in energy generation and grid dispatching, especially during peak summer electricity demand.
It has an investment of 1.46 billion yuan ($204.28 million), a capacity of 270 MW, and covers an area of about 2,918 mu (194 hectares). Nearly 500,000 monocrystalline silicon bifacial photovoltaic modules have been installed, combining fish farming and power generation to maximize sea space utilization.
The project is expected to generate an average of 320 million kilowatts annually, meeting the electricity needs of over 80,000 households. Compared to coal-fired power, it will reduce standard coal consumption by 98,200 metric tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 269,800 tons annually.
Additionally, it provides new opportunities for local fishermen, creating over 1,000 aquaculture jobs and generating an extra 3,000 yuan in fishery per mu annually, with total tax revenue from power generation reaching 58.5 million yuan.
The Yueqing Bay shared energy storage station, operational since June 30, is expected to increase clean energy consumption by 580 million kWh annually. Unlike typical energy storage systems, this grid-side storage facility is managed by Zhejiang's power dispatching agency, accommodating solar power from the Hengtai project and offering surplus capacity for other renewable energy sources in the province.
