In the first half of 2024, Wenzhou's gross domestic product reached 429.8 billion yuan ($59.2 billion), growing by 6.2 percent year-on-year.
The total output value of the city's agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery industries grew by 4.2 percent.
The service sector, accounting for 57.2 percent of GDP, showed significant growth. Wholesale and retail, accommodation and catering, and transportation services increased 8.3 percent, 9.5 percent, and 9.6 percent, respectively.
The income gap between the city’s urban and rural residents narrowed from 1.83 to 1.81. Low-income farmers' per capita disposable income rose by 11.8 percent.
The industrial added value of enterprises above designated size expanded 11.2 percent, with significant growth in the automotive, computer communication electronics, specialized equipment, and electrical machinery sectors.
Fixed asset investment saw a rise of 7.9 percent, with high-tech industry investment increasing 27.9 percent.
Consumer demand surged, with accommodation and catering revenue rising by 9.3 percent and 21 percent, respectively. Retail sales of consumer goods reached 215.18 billion yuan, an uptick of 4.4 percent year-on-year. Household appliances and communication equipment sales surged 70.8 percent and 29.3 percent, respectively.
The city's transport turnover also increased, with road transport growing by 12 percent, Wenzhou Port's container throughput up 11 percent year-on-year, and Wenzhou Airport's passenger and cargo throughput up 10.6 percent and 19.4 percent, respectively.
